The surgery on May 18, 2000 lasted about 7 hours. The doctor removed 2 discs in the low back.
He used 4 PLIFs (cadaver bone from a bone bank), 6 screws, and misc. hardware to hold everything together until
the fusion occurs. Plus he recycled all the bone chips that he had to chip out to gain access to the bad discs.
Roy said he got screwed 6 times and didn't even know it. Then about 18 months later after all the bones had fused
together, the doctor performed another surgery to remove the hardware.
